It’s-a almost time for the new Super Mario Galaxy movie, and excitement in this household is running high. My kids and I really enjoy the original movie, and everything we have seen from the upcoming sequel shows that the fun and magic of the Mushroom Kingdom is going to keep on keeping on. One of the cool things we already know about the movie is that there are a lot of new characters being introduced. Taking the spotlight is the celestial Rosalina.

Like last time, Jakks Pacific is taking the lead in realm of toy merchandising and this new line continues what was started with the first movie, so everything fits together well. Joining Rosalina in this series is a new Mario (duh!) as well as Yoshi and Bowser Jr. I might get Yoshi, but I will likely pass on Jr. as I am not a fan of the character or concept of him at all (Koopalings ALL THE WAY!). The movie figures are 5″ scale, so they don’t fit with the standard Jakks Mario line, but we knew that coming in.

Rosalina has all of the additional details in things like her crown and dress that the movie designs bring, and she is taller than the other figures, which is also accurate. According to Nintendo canon, there has been times when she has been over SEVEN FEET TALL, and while that is not the case here, she is still tall and lithe, as she should be. This is heightened by the fact that figure actually “floats” via a clear stand (permanently attached), so she will be hovering over the collection. She has some limited articulation due to the dress design, but what she does have in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and torso does have pretty good range of movement.

Her lone accessory is her wand, which works, but I would be remiss if I didn’t say I wish she also had a Luma. Mario gets one, but there are lots of them in lots of different colors in the movie, so there was definitely opportunity here. Oh, and she does have the “realistic” eye effect like the first movie figures, so that is another cool touch that sets these figures apart from the others.

I like this figure, and it is good to get a Rosalina from Jakks that an actual action figure, and not just a mini figurine. Which brings me to my final point – I REALLY hope we can get this character in the standard 4″ figure line now. I know there has been buzz about how, due to her dress, the figure would be too large for the standard 4″ line packaging (apparently the same excuse is in play for Roy and Morton, too), but that is a pretty soft. We NEED this character in the standard line, too. Not to mention that since they are in the Galaxy movie, the same holds true for Wart, Mouser, and the other awesome SMB2 characters. Let’s go, Jakks. Seriously.
