Do you know what makes a rogues gallery great? Sure, iconic and memorable foes are a big part of it, but also: wacky and insane concepts manifested in (often) hapless life or death situations for heroes to sort. That is why Spider-Man has such a great rogues gallery, and that why Grizzly is an essential member.

Any time a professional wrestler becomes comic book villain, you know the wackiness is going to be amped up. That rotten J. Jonah Jameson torpedoed his wresting career, so in reasonable fashion, ol’ Max became a supervillain with a powered exoskeleton in the form of, *checks notes* a grizzly bear. If you are not already in love with the concept, I don’t know what to do for you at this point. THIS is what makes comic books awesome.

This type of baddie is exactly in my wheelhouse, so I have been quietly anticipating this release. No, this isn’t the first man-bear-villain we have seen in Marvel Legends, and thus, Ursa Major growled so Grizzly could ROAR. Two bear dudes to take on the World’s Finest superheroes is a real treat, and the fact that this guy functions so well as an action figure makes it even better.

This is a deluxe release built on the aforementioned Ursa Major base. It has a lot more useful articulation than you might initially expect for a figure of this size and build, but all the extra bear parts help to realize the vision, and Grizzly is a lighter color. The fur collar piece is technically optional, but you will see the plug spaces in the back without it. The alternate hands help grip some of the accessories, and all together, you can get a form that is actually pretty different from Ursa.

The two portraits are fantastic, and even though I gravitate to the one with Maxwell’s face, the full mask is neat and includes an articulated jaw. He has some loot from his most recent bank heist which includes a gold bar, a couple of stacks of gold bars, and a money bag. I really like these accessories and they will likely get a lot of use in pictures with Grizzly and other villains.

This is type of Marvel Legends figure that just speaks to me, so I am glad guys like Grizzly are getting their due in plastic. The crazier the Rogues, the better for my money, and seeing him stand next to the likes of Doc Ock is what makes this collection so great.
