Rosalina is having herself quite a year. She was the breakout star of the Super Mario Galaxy movie (a huge hit!), and while it was expected to see her in the movie figure line, it was also FINALLY enough to get her a spot in the regular Super Mario line, too.
I say it every time I talk about this Nintendo line: it is a SLOG. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but I don’t think anyone would argue that new characters in the line are hard to come by. We have a lot of cool characters, but the line has been going for many, many years, and there are still a lot to get to. Rosalina has been at or near the top of the “most-wanted” lists for a bit now, so getting her in this line is great, and definitely a relief.
I mentioned her movie star turn, but she has been a princess staple in the Mario mythos for a long time. At this point, I think the core Mario “team” consists of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, Daisy, Toadette, and Rosalina, so she king of finishes off the heavy-hitters. Overall she looks great in the collection and pretty much fits right in, so although it is slow, this line is really impressive in terms of its scope.
Rosalina follows a lot of the formula of previous princesses Peach and Daisy in terms of construction and design. She has a hollow shell of a tent for dress (which is fine), but she gets some nice movement in the shoulders, elbows, and waist. This line is not known for being super-articulated or even very innovative in terms of joints, but for the most part, it gets the job done.
Rosalina’s likeness is good with her trademark hair swoop obscuring one eye, and her light blue and silver palette compliments Peach and Daisy well. My main nitpick is that she is short, shorter than Peach which absolutely should not be. Rosalina is definitely the tall one, and if you have Daisy, she is about the same height as her, but Peach is still very much taller than both of them. If you are a stickler, that is a real bummer, I admit. My display has her above the rest hovering on a stand, so it’s not a huge deal to me, but know she is shorter.
She gets two accessories, which are pretty standard. She has her star wand as well as a glow-in-the-dark Luma. These are both nice and work great for the figure. Lumas were also front and center in both of the Mario movies, so I will take more of these in various colors. Oh, and GITD feature is great and is very bright, as you can see.
Hooray for Rosalina! Hooray for new characters! I am so glad she has finally made it to the line. Now, I will end this in typical fashion and remind everyone that we still need ROY(!!!), MORTON(!!!), Wart, Mouser, Tri-Clyde, Claw Grip, and many, many more.
