It’s the most wonderful time of the year! While I wish these days came more frequently than once every twelve months or so, I am always so thrilled when they arrive. Yep – the latest wave of Jada Toys’ Mega Man line has arrived, and Proto Man, Snake Man, and Gemini Laser Mega Man help to make the best Mega Man line EVER even better.

Yes, it seems like ages since the last wave arrived, but slow and steady as it may be, I feel very fortunate that this Mega Man line is one of the best action figure lines going right now – PERIOD. I can also confidently say that as it goes on, it gets better and better in terms of quality, details, and construction. This latest batch builds on the best of what has come before it, and adds some features we have not seen yet. Proto Man is a character that fans have been clamoring for since the line’s inception, and Snake Man is most certainly a standout Robot Master from Mega Man 3. Plus, a cool new Mega Man with an in-stage enemy is always welcome.

So, let’s get right to it!
GEMINI LASER MEGA MAN
Every series has a Mega Man variation included, and I am okay with that. Yes, I know the NEXT wave does not, but there are so many cool iterations of Rock that the line could go on for a very long time and still have weapons and colors to choose from. I will admit that Gemini Man is my favorite Master from MM3, so having him represented, even indirectly, in this series is cool. Plus, our boy always looks good in blue, even when it isn’t his signature shades.

This figure features a new portrait that is featured on the packaging, that comes right from some of the classic marketing materials. You also get a repaint of the teeth-clenching head we have seen before, plus interchangeable hands. You also get the Buster Cannon, but this one has been altered from the previous version to include a hole to facilitate the Gemini Laser effect, which is also included. The laser has always been one of the most unique MM weapons, bouncing all over the walls, so I like that it can be display shooting from the cannon.

One of the best parts is that, like the MM variant from the last wave, this figure comes with a pack-in of an in-stage enemy – this time in the form of the Penpen! I know you know these little guys from the Gemini Man stage, and jumping over them in rapid succession on those slippery floors can be challenge. This little guy is a fully-functioning figure that has articulation and can be posed in a variety of ways, so I am going to need several of them. Like the Met, I LOVE the idea of including these figures, so I hope we see more of them in the future.

SNAKE MAN
Ah, Snake Man – one of the most dynamic and memorable Robot Masters ever. From his original game appearance to subsequent inclusions in other games, and his creepy portrayal in the Archie Comics – you just knew he would be the first of the MM3 Robot Masters to show up in this line. Even though Gemini Man is my favorite, Snake Man is way up on the list as well, and as usual, Jada has done him tremendous justice. We have gotten a surprising amount of green in this line so far, but this guy still stands out, even amongst all of the other cool Masters.

Snake Man has always struck me as one of the more evil of the Robot Masters, and the two portraits with their red eyes and creepy expressions do a great job of illustrating that. Snake Man has the most complex heads so far in the line due to the open-mouth snake helmet, complete with tail. That tail piece is swappable between the two heads and is actually articulated, so you are able to get it into a variety of poses. The cannon stays put on the left arm, but the right arm has a swappable fist, open hand, and grip hand to rest on top of the cannon. His shoulder pads are very large, but those are also articulated as well, so they don’t get in the way of the arm movement.

The included Search Snake weapon (with stand!) is by far one of the coolest accessories in the line so far. It mimics the look from the games/control art, and the tail portion actually has a twist joint so it can have some variation in display. I always think of these as coming in groups of three, so I will definitely need more, and being able to have them uniquely posed is cool. These are almost like little pack-in guys than a weapon, so I see them as being popular.

PROTO MAN
Finally, the long-awaited arrival of Mega Man’s older and moodier brother is here – and I know people are VERY happy for that. Proto Man (or Blues) made his in-game debut in Mega Man 3, so it is appropriate that we are seeing him in this group. He has had his share of action figures over the years, but I can confidently state that this is the best he has ever been, and I am so glad to have him to fight alongside, or sometimes – against, his little brother. Now we just need their little sister, too..

Anyway, Proto Man has two portraits – one with his classic smirk and one with grimacing/more serious face. The smirk is my favorite, and while the other is fine, I would have LOVED to have seen a Break Man head, or even an un-helmeted head here (complete with his WILD hair) included here instead. Maybe we will get a chance for that later down the road. You also get some swappable hands in the form of a fist, open hand, and grip hand complete with Proto Shield handle (more on that in a moment). Oh, and the Proto Buster cannon, too, along with a buster shot and stand.

The best accessories are Proto Man’s iconic scarf and shield, though, and both are realized wonderfully. The scarf is soft goods with a wire frame so you can pose it however you like – from resting to dramatically blowing in the wind. It is also removable. The Proto Shield is my favorite, though, and Proto Man can hold it with the included grip hand (the hand plugs right in) or he can wear it on his back thanks to the include peg. The grip hand can be swapped to Mega Man as well so he can wield this shield as he sometime known to do, and the red fist will be obscured by the shield, so that works. I think people are REALLY going to love Proto Man. This is an awesome figure.

I love this line so much I cannot express it accurately. It is really one of the best things going right now, and I will die on the hill that, overall, it is Jada’s best action figure line right now. Plus, as mentioned, is just keeps getting better and better. I was/am sad that nothing new past the next wave was shown at SDCC this past July, but I hope beyond hope that we will see new debuts at some point. This line is a DREAM come true, so if you love Mega Man, or just awesome figures in general, please support it, you will not be disappointed. ROCK ON!
