Fraggle friends, it really is time to dance your cares away. The arrival of the third series of Boss Fight Studio’s awesome Fraggle Rock line is upon us, and the classic crew is fully together for the first time in action figure form.
I don’t make it a secret that I am fan of all things Jim Henson. I love everything from Sesame Street to The Muppet Show to The Dark Crystal and everything in between. Some of my most cherished Henson memories come from Fraggle Rock, and I was fortune enough to be the perfect age when show as in production. All of the characters mean so much to me (especially Boober!) and I still cherish the little Happy Meal cars I have had since my youth.
So, it should be no surprise that when the good dudes at Boss Fight Studio announced they would be making Fraggle figures, I was over the moon. We are in the third series now (plus some “basics” releases), and the team has done a wonderful job of getting us figures from both the classic series and the new Back to the Rock show. I got to take a peek at the Basics line not long ago, and that line is a great way to start the collection as it gets you most of the characters in their classic looks. With series three, we finally get our classic Mokey, as well as Gobo from his pursuit of the Cavern of Lost Dreams.
Now, series two brought us Mokey in her look from Back to the Rock, but her updated look is a sharp departure from the original. So, I am glad to have both. Classic Mokey is kind of like your weird crunchy aunt (who leaves her robe open sometimes, I guess?), who is always cool and collected and in-touch with the balance of the universe. While I really like her glow-up in BTTR, this is the Mokey I remember and love and adding her to the rest of the crew is such a thrill.
Like the previous Fraggle figures, Mokey features swappable portraits to show off her animated expressions, as well as two sets of hands. She also has a soft good robe, two necklaces, her radish sack, and Lanford, her beloved and slightly scary plant. Landford features a hinged jaw, so you can show off those fierce teeth if you like. I love that all of the full releases of the Fraggle figures have included some great world-building accessories, and getting Lanford is more like a pack-in figure, so the more the merrier.
Now, we have already gotten a classic Gobo, so this new release gives us a chance at a memorable episode look. Much of this figure carries over from original Gobo figure, but with a new head, complete with is signature hat. This adventuresome figure works great on his own, or following around his Uncle Traveling Matt. The walking stick that comes with the first release goes great here, but with this figure you also get Gobo’s pickaxe, mushroom block, backpack, and map.
Also included are three Fraggle-scale Doozers: Cotterpin (classic), Yeaster and Crusty. The latter two have tiny spear accessories, and all of them have holes in their feet to ride on Gobo’s backpack. I REALLY hope we get more of the smaller Doozers with future releases because these little guys are a lot of fun. There are so many memorable little Doozers to get to.
It is hard to put into words how excited I am to not only have a classic and Back to the Rock Fraggle collections. Boss Fight has done such a great job bringing these to plastic life. Now that the “core” groups are complete, I would love to get some more supporting Fraggles and Doozers, and dare I say, some GORGS! Junior Gorg just has to be made! If you are a Fraggle fan like me, this collection will bring you so much joy, you might just have to dance your cares away!
