The PlunderPlanet is expanding and diversifying! The latest group to join all of the Plunder Folk are the PlunderFrogs, and well, these might just be my favorites yet.
I have loved these characters, figures, and concepts since day one. I remember seeing the teases for the original Plunderlings and thinking they had potential to be my favorite new IP in, well, probably decades. Well, I was right! For me anyway. It all just clicks with me, and in the end, these are just really fun toys. I have been a completist with the line so far, and it has been really fun seeing PlunderStrongs, PlunderLongs, PlunderBeaks, and others join the fun. Now that the PlunderFrogs are here, I am already wanting MORE.
Now, Robo was a little ahead of the curve with these and did a great job reviewing Tinker Makoh. So, if you go check that out, you get a thorough look at foundational aspects of these figures. I just wanted to take a few minutes to say how much I love the other two as well. So, this more of just quick look at Dendro and Koqui, so I can highlight a few of my favorite things.
First and foremost – these are adorable, and they are very well-made, as you would expect. These take advantage of some keen reuse (mostly from the Plunderlings), while introducing some new aspects. PlunderFrogs can have up to four arms, which is a fun little skew, but since they are easily removable, you can adjust them to your liking. Personally, I like mine with two and my head canon says they one sprout the other two arms when needed, so with Makoh, it is fun to pose him out with all four so he can multi-tinker. That’s a thing, right?
I love the portraits and expression here, too, and they are definitely my favorite of the line so far. They can look so happy! But my favorite is the little mean face, which I feel fits Koqui perfectly. That expression and his coloring make him a rumbler to me, so you better watch out for his swords. With his four arms and tongue, he can wield up to FIVE at a time. Genius!
Dendro is fun, too, and the bright colors recall rainforest frogs, if not drawing directly from a specific real-life example. The head shape makes me wonder if some tadpole incarnation of these might be around the corner, but I also love the hoods. The masks are AMAZING, too, which is why I want more characters. I just can’t cover up these faces and restrict the tongue usage yet. I need MORE to further diversify because everything is just so damned cool.
The team Lone Coconut have another hit on their hands, and these are the best yet. They sold out pretty quickly, so I hope that means that more characters are on the way. I want as many frogs as they can think of. And some females. I think it i time for those, too. FUN!
