The Masters of the Universe Origins Sketchbook Series has been a fun little sub-line, and the OG Lord of Destruction has finally entered the fray.
I have not been shy about my love for the Sketchbook Series, and over the past couple of years it has brought some of my favorite Origins figures. Spikor and Man-E-Faces have been standouts, but they have all been a fun and interesting look into the deepest history of the character designs of our favorite characters. As always, I hope Mer-Man gets his day in the sun, but there are so many funky corners that this line can explore.
Since He-Man got his shot not long ago, the timing seemed perfect for Skeletor. He is not quite as far off from the final design of many of the others, but that just speaks loudly about strength of the design from the conception of the character. There are a lot of specific details that are instantly recognizable to fans with a knowledge of the history of MOTU, so I am glad this line lets those pieces sing, instead of trying to integrate them into a new working of the character.
You don’t have a be a MOTU history buff to enjoy these either, and because MOTU is MOTU, this could easily be “your” Skeletor, or even another character entirely. I am looking forward to the next round of these, but I am very glad to have Skeletor now, so look for him at Target now.
