Mondo was one of the clear highlights for me at SDCC this year, and it all started with their Real Ghostbusters exclusive. For 2026 convention offerings, this is by far and away my favorite.
Everything is hitting so great with this line right now. From the release choices, to the quality and execution, to schedule, this line is really humming along and there are few lines, if any, that bring me more joy right now. RGB was the last of the “big” lines that I collected as a kid to get a full-on modern collector update, and every piece released thus far has been worth the wait. Seriously, I could go on for hours about the work Alex Brewer and the rest of the MONDO creative team are doing right now, and while it is definitely a premium line (including the price), for me, it has been worth every cent.
This latest SDCC 2026 exclusive, which was really just a standard “Timed Release” that coincided with the timing of the Con, shows that, even with the core team now completed, MONDO has a lot of excellent tricks still up their sleeves. This “Citizen Ghost” set is based off of the classic cartoon episode that helps tell the tale of how the GBs got their new uniforms, and shows some of the immediate fall out from the battle with Gozer and the transition into steady state of the cartoon. It is definitely memorable, and the premise lends itself well to an exclusive offering, but also as a opportunity to start the line if you have not been collecting thus far.
The first 1000 sets are shipping out now (with the balance orders coming in February), and I am glad I got in on the first round because this set is entirely too much fun, and has a LOT going on. If you are familiar with the episode, ectoplasmic residue left on the team’s original uniforms (which Peter was supposed to burn!) allowed some lookalike spooks to take up residence in them and run amok. This set does a wonderful job of bringing the green specters to plastic life in the tan jumpsuits, and if that is all it was, I would definitely count it as a win. The portraits are so expressive, and I love the ghostly effects.
But this set is so, so, so much more than that. The set also features glow-in-the-dark ectoplasmic marshmallow residue that can be clipped onto the figures, as well as the standard-issue ghost traps and removable inserts (four each), proton packs (x4) and proton streams in a new ecto green deco (again x4). So, these spooks are ready to take on the good guys until they run out of energy and become weakened.
What I was NOT expecting is that this set also includes full “regular” portraits, hands, and gloves for the Ghostbusters, so you can outfit the whole team in the classic costumes. This is pretty amazing for a few different reasons. First, for all of us in on the line since the start, it give you a chance to display the team in their “movie” costumes, which is such a cool little display to be able to achieve. I mean, they look so strange to me not being in their iconic cartoon colors, but it is so cool to see. Also, for those who missed on the line from the start, this gives you the whole team in one shot. That is pretty amazing.
On top of ALL that, you still get an episode version of Slimer (stealing the first meal back at the Fire House), as well as two ghosts from the CG episode. These little pack-in ghosts are quickly becoming one of my favorite parts of the line (much like the vintage!), and I want a ghost slime stand in every color of the rainbow. This world is building out so fast, and these little guys are an essential part of that.
What a set! What a line! It really doesn’t get any better than this right now, so if you are a RGB fan, I hope you were able to grab this set, it is incredibly fun. Janine should be out soon, Louis Tully and the Grundel are up for preorder next, ECTO-FREAKING-1 is set for preorder later this year, and 2027 brings the People Busters. I am ready to take this ride wherever it goes, and so far, it has been amazing.
